External pressure dependence of granular orifice flow: Transition to Beverloo flow

چکیده
In this paper, we have designed and employed a suspended-wall silo to remove Janssen effect in order explore directly the local pressure dependence of Granular Orifice Flow (GOF) systematically. We find that as is removed, flow rate Q changes linearly with external pressure. The slope {\alpha} linear change decays exponentially ratio size orifice {\Phi}/D, which suggests existence characteristic {\lambda} (~2.4). When {\Phi}/D > {\lambda}, gradually zero, on GOF becomes negligible, where Beverloo law retrieves. Our results show not determining factor constant GOF, although it may contribute shield top load. key parameter {\Phi}/D. small can be adjusted by via our setup, useful transportation granules microgravity environment gravity-driven disabled.

Shock propagation in granular flow subjected to an external impact.
We analyze a recent experiment [Boudet, Cassagne, and Kellay, Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 224501 (2009)] in which the shock created by the impact of a steel ball on a flowing monolayer of glass beads is studied quantitatively. We argue that radial momentum is conserved in the process and hence show that in two dimensions the shock radius increases in time t as a power law t{1/3}. This is confirmed in...
متن کاملMathematical Modeling of Flow in a Granular Permeable Bed Channel
In this research, a two-dimensional mathematical model using turbulence model was developed in a rectangular channel with granular permeable bed. Finite volume method was used for numerical solution of governing equations. The equations considered are discretized using Hybrid difference scheme while applying SIMPLE algorithm to correct velocity components in the continuity equation. In the dev...
متن کاملThe Cooling Flow to Accretion Flow Transition
Cooling flows in galaxy clusters and isolated elliptical galaxies are a source of mass for fueling accretion onto a central supermassive black hole. We calculate the dynamics of accreting matter in the combined gravitational potential of a host galaxy and a central black hole assuming a steady state, spherically symmetric flow (i.e., no angular momentum). The global dynamics depends primarily o...
متن کاملForce and flow transition in plowed granular media.
We use plate drag to study the response of granular media to localized forcing as a function of volume fraction ϕ. A bifurcation in the force and flow occurs at the onset of dilatancy ϕc. Below ϕc rapid fluctuations in the drag force F(D) are observed. Above ϕc fluctuations in F(D) are periodic and increase in magnitude with ϕ. Velocity field measurements indicate that the bifurcation in F(D) r...
متن کاملVisual Observation of Flow Regime Transition in Downward Vertical Gas-Liquid Flow Using Simple Mixer
Different flow patterns of downward gas-liquid two-phaseflow using simple mixer are studied in an experimental manner. An experimental setup is designed and fabricated to allow the visual observation of downward two-phase flow patterns and their transitions. The flow patterns are recorded by a 1200 frames per second high speed video camera. The quality of downward two-phase flow patterns photos...
